School Background: Part of Boulder Valley Schools, Meadowlark School is a collaborative learning community providing an innovative, meaningful, and engaging student-led educational experience.
Meadowlark PK-8 is a new building situated in the Erie community within Boulder Valley School district. It was designed by some of the country’s leading educational architects from the FNI design firm. It was important in the design of the furniture to create 21st century learning environments while maintaining the aesthetics established by the architects. The furniture with the classroom and common spaces are tailored to the specific grade taught in each wing of the school. Each wing contains flexible, mobile classroom tables, a mixture of seating options, makerspace furniture, and soft seating. The teacher footprint is minimized within the classroom with mobile, height adjustable podiums but maximized in the dedicated teacher workrooms. The heart of the school is the café space with its grand purple staircase. The furniture in this space maximizes the students served within the space while maintaining the ability to clear the area if needed. The library and art room exemplify the ideology of creating a common school community with mobile furniture and displays that can extend into the hallway space.
